We will be discussing the positive things about cell phone use and school, and about the negative things about the cell phone use in school, also some general facts. Critcal questions will often be asked throughout the podcast. Josh:Yeah, so about the cell phone use during school, Claire what's your imput on the use of cell phones during the school day? Claire:Well, lets look at some facts before i make my decision on this topic! Josh:Here are some of the facts about the use of cell phones during the school day. About 80% of teens in the U.S have a cell phone. Some students use their cell phone apporpriatly and others do not such as, 35% of teens confessed that they have cheated at least once in school. Claire: Oh wow! those are some pretty facinating statistics! Most of the teenagers have cell phones so i mean, why not have cell phones be used during the school hours? Josh: Well Claire, you can see all the positive things about using the cell phones during the day, but did you think about the negatives? like all the distractions that would be caused and the kids cheating on regular assiginments or even tests! Claire: oh well i never really thought about that, but still the students could use thier phones for researching, and music for relaxing, and many more! Josh: Next we will have Vishnu Robinson, the principle of South Middle School.... (pause) ....Welcome Vishnu! Vishnu: Well thanks for having me. Josh: So Vishnu what is your opinion about cell phone use in school? Vishnu: Personally i believe that cell phones are not a good thing to have in school, because the students are way to distracted by texting and communicating with their peers. Also the students would be able to cheat more easily. Josh: Oh i see, but did you ever take the positive things about cell phone use in school into consideration. Vishnu: Well yes like listening to music i heard can help students do their work and relax and consentrate more on things. Claire: Have you ever thought about note taking reasons or research reasons, like taking notes could be way easier and conviniant. Josh: Also the students would always have a caculator with them so they will always be prepared in that kind of way. Josh: Ezra Fellows what is your opinion on cell phone use in schools? Ezra: Well my opion is that sutdents should be able to use cell phones during school because of all of the benefits. Josh: Benifits such as? Ezra: Well you know, the studies had shown that using music had helped students relax and consintrate and they would be comfortable which will result in better grades, also the notetaking would be easier because they would be able to just text their notes into their phone or could even just take pictures of the notes so they would just have all the information down. Claire: Those are great reasons why students should be allowed to use their cell phones during school hours. Josh: Have you personally ever used your cell phone during the school hours? Ezra: Yes acutally i have, not for cheating reasons, but for communicating with friends during the school day that have their cell phone. Josh: I believe that kids should be able to use their cell phones during the school day, because it would help out them and their friends in the long run. What about you claire? Claire: Well i also agree with you that sudents should be able to use their cell phone use in school because it would help them out with research if they were able to have internet service on them and also because they could communicate with their parents that are always wondering if they are safe or not.
